What a Shire install has to handle
On the coastal side — Cronulla, Woolooware, Kurnell — it's salt, sand and UV. Salt spray coats paving, pool coping and garden furniture within weeks of cleaning; natural lawn along the beachfront doesn't stand a chance, and a cheap synthetic strips its colour within two summers. Sandy substrates mean drainage is rarely a problem but edge stability is — the base has to be compacted properly or the turf perimeter walks within a year.
Inland, around Miranda, Caringbah and Sutherland, the soil flips to heavier clay. Drainage slows, summer heat reflects off brick and paving, and established family homes tend to have high-use yards with trampolines, goalposts, pools and dogs all sharing the same block. Our base build compensates — deeper excavation, graded aggregate, and where the client wants it, subsoil drainage before the turf goes down.
In the southern Shire — Engadine, Heathcote, Yarrawarra, Menai — a lot of blocks sit on or near bushfire-prone land. We can supply material and layout documentation for Asset Protection Zone compliance where you or your certifier need it.
How we tailor each Shire install
Coastal Cronulla and Woolooware jobs get the same salt-hardened spec we use for the Eastern Suburbs beachfronts — UV-stabilised Australian-made turf at a higher face weight, permeable underlay for pool surrounds, and detailed edge work against tile, bluestone or concrete pool coping. Because sandy soils settle over time, we over-compact the base in two lifts rather than one and install turf-pin or batten edges depending on the perimeter.
For inland Shire sites we treat them like the rest of South Sydney — deeper excavation over clay, drainage fall away from the house, and a taller, harder-wearing pile tuned for family use. Pet-heavy blocks get an antimicrobial infill and the open-weave pet backing so urine rinses through rather than pooling.
