Childcare and school play surfaces are a specialist install. The brief is different from a family backyard — compliance to Australian Standards, high daily use, safety under play equipment, fast drainage for Sydney storms and a surface that cleans down easily after a day of sand, paint and a hundred small hands. A good install gets all of that right. A cheap install gets half of it right and fails a licensing inspection a year later.

The brief is usually the same: the existing surface isn't safe or isn't presentable, the site needs to stay operational during the install, and the operator wants documentation their certifier or licensor can sign off on. We scope the job around all three.
How we install a childcare play surface
Childcare installs are different from residential ones in two important ways. First, compliance — where the surface sits under play equipment with any fall height, it has to be specified to Australian Standard AS 4422 (playground surfacing — impact attenuation) and we can supply the turf-and-shock-pad combination that meets the required Critical Fall Height. Second, hygiene and drainage — these surfaces see sand, food, paint, bodily fluids and hundreds of small feet every day, and they have to drain fast and clean down without holding odour.
The install itself follows the familiar pattern: strip the existing surface, excavate to depth, lay a compacted aggregate base with clear drainage fall, then depending on the use either go straight to turf or add a certified shock pad layer underneath. The turf is an antimicrobial, higher-density product with a tough backing and a child-safe infill. Where the site needs to stay operational we can stage the install to the facility's schedule — weekend work, holiday-period installs, or sectioned access so part of the play area stays open.
