A synthetic putting green, built properly, is the closest thing to having a practice facility attached to your house. No membership, no drive, no weather days — just a true-rolling surface in the backyard that you can use at 6am or 6pm and that holds its speed year after year without maintenance.
We build custom golf greens across Sydney, the Hills, the Sutherland Shire, Wollongong and the Illawarra. Backyard practice greens make up most of the work, but we also build for corporate offices, hospitality venues, retirement villages, resorts and occasionally clubs wanting a dedicated heavy-use practice zone. Every green starts with a design conversation about shape, contours, cups and fringe, then gets built to a real spec — compacted sub-base, laser-levelled finish, short-pile putting turf, longer fringe, regulation cups, tuned infill weight to control the stimp.
Who we build greens for
Most of our green work is backyard practice greens for serious weekend golfers — somewhere to work on short game without driving to the club. Beyond that we build for commercial clients too: corporate campuses putting a green into a courtyard, hospitality venues offering a feature in an outdoor dining area, resorts, retirement villages, and occasionally a club wanting a dedicated practice zone that can take heavy daily use.
Whatever the brief, the principles are the same: the surface has to roll true, the contours have to be deliberate, and the transitions into fringe and surrounds have to be finished properly. We treat a green as a build, not a lawn install — because that's what it is.
How we build a putting green
Every green starts with a design conversation. How many cups? What shape — kidney, tiered, long and narrow? Will there be a chipping apron? A fringe collar? Any deliberate contours for break? Once that's locked, we measure and mark the site, excavate the footprint and build the base in compacted aggregate with precise fall for drainage. A true-rolling green isn't laid on flat ground — it's laid on a carefully shaped, laser-levelled base.
We then lay the putting surface turf — a short-pile, high-density product with tight stitch spacing specifically made for putting — and seam it so joins disappear. Cups are cut and fitted, fringe turf (longer, softer pile) runs around the perimeter, and where the client wants it we integrate a chipping apron with a slightly different fibre for realistic approach shots. Finally we apply a silica sand infill to the exact weight that controls the speed — we can tune the stimp to your preference.
A typical backyard green takes two to four days to build depending on size and complexity. Commercial greens run longer. Every green we build carries the same 8-year manufacturer warranty as our lawn installs plus our own workmanship cover.
